PEELING RETZUOS

I have retzuos that the black can be peeled off easily, when peeled off the retzua is white ,my shaila is as long as it has not been peeled off are they kosher.Does the machlokas noda beyehuda and chayai adam (as brought down in keses)also apply here? or only batim since they have to be רואה פני אויר
WHOEVER HAS ACCESS TO A POSEK PLEASE ASK AND POST.

  2. Poskim do discuss this case, the sefer zichron elihu 20:5 (I did not see this sefer) holds that the case of retzuas is more lenient than the case of paint of tefillin batim.
{You quoted the machlokes recorded in the mishna berura 32:185 that you mentioned (quoting the opinion of the chaya adam)}.
Apparently one could rely on the noda beyuda and other poskim in this case.
I am not paskening. By the way did you contact the Rav Hamachshir of these Retzuas?

  3. I asked the shailo to R' Shammai Gross this morning. He appreciated it very much and said it was a good shailo. He said that in recent time Rav Landa (from Bnei Brak) came out against such ratzuos. He told l'maseh if someone is already using then it's ok (yotzee). He said lichatchila though better not to sell it if that's the position you're in. I emphasized like I saw here that there is no black left on the ratzuah at all and everything seems to come off. He said be Tefillin it's a little different since over there you need to have only the or of the batim and nothing else (i.e. don't come and cover it with some sort of black material or something that has mamoshos to it, rather just color. By the ratzuos lav davka. However v'dai lichatchila to not use it or sell it. Before I left I saw he made a note to look into the shailo more. If anything new comes up I'll post it.

  4. REVEWING THE ZICHRON ELIYAHU IT SEEMS THAT IN THIS CASE THE CHAYAY ADAM WOULD BE MACHMIR.
I want to explain the shaila-it is not rav landaus problem of using a primer before painting the problem is that since the black can be peeled off 1)it might be called tzipuy and not tzeva
2)since the black can be peeled whole -who ays it is bateil to the retzua maybe the retzua gets bateil to the black coating.

  5. My comments on this and the psak of the Edah/Rav Friedlander on this exact shaila can be found in this forum here: http://www.stamforum.com/2012/08/scandal-what-scandal.html
I also mention the psak of the Karlsburger Rav.

All black retzuos are fine since they are black underneath.

I believe all the makers us primer on the leather (and sand it down so there is no mamashus left on the surface.
