yud of alef touching the guf

Excellent example of the yud touching the guf, most Rabbis passel this and don't allow fixing [chok tochos] in tefilin or mezuza. [In ST you may scrape away the whole yud and rewrite it]. Some Rabbis may permit scraping the negiya from the left side.

Ask your Rabbi !!

  1. R. Moshe, what you wrote "In ST you may scrape away the whole yud and rewrite it" doesn't sound right. That should be right only if the top yud was written last. If the top yud was written first than you have to scrape out the whole letter. Unless there is some other דעה that I am not aware of.

    1. Sholom, you are right I wasn't medayek at all in this sentence. I only menat that in a ST the problem can be taken care of by scraping the passul parts of the letter.
You are right, usualy this will call for scraping the gag and not the yud, but these details vary according to the seder of the csiva and when and what type of pisul occurred.

  2. I was wondering why this may not be considered kosher since the is only a tag that is touching if someone can enlighten me i would be grateful

    1. I believe that if the guf haos is not touching only throught a tag then most poskim consider this to be kosher

  3. theoretically you are correct, but since the nekuda is so close to the gag and connected, the hollow inside is barely noticeable [the picture is very enlarged] therefore it may be considered as completely touching and pasul.
