Ksav of a 15 year old Sofer.

(I believe the klaf is about 5 cm, so it's small. Click to enlarge.)
A 15 year old boy I've been encouraging to pursue safrus asked me to post his ksav and ask for comments.

He also would like to know how much the finished pitum haketores would be worth.

Thank you!

  1. Hashem Yishmor!!! I want to test this boy on Keses Ha'Sofer Siman 8.

Shomu Shomayim!!! Until when will Safrus be seen as a practice of art and not a field of Halacha...

I want to know how he understands the Ta"z S"K 14.

I think it is a big avlah that young students are taught tzuros ha'osios before being proficient in Chak Tochos. It gives them a mistaken sense of what this field is about...

    1. Why so negative? The boy is well-versed in Keses Hasofer, a yiras shomayom, and very serious about safrus.

He also has, in consultation with his father, who is also a sofer, decided not to write tefillin or mezuzos until he is 18.

  2. Great work! A few practical hearos:

    1. Some of the raglayim of the yudim are a bit on the long side.
    2. The moshav of some of the ayins barely extends past the zayin of the ayin and extends less than the head of the zayin. This is a problem that I see even by sofrim mumchim and can sometimes make the ayin a shayla of a tes.

Just wondering: I am not used to seeing an extra tag on the yudim in ksav Beis Yosef; is this common?

    Hatzlacha Rabba!
